Owing to the death of Prof Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebire on January 23rd 2022, president Museveni has finally named Dr Micheal Atingi-Ego as the new Bank Of Uganda. Atingi has been Deputy Governor since 29th March 2020 and his contract was set to expire on 23rd April 2025.
Atingi-ego replaced Dr. Louis Kasekende who unceremoniously when his contract was not renewed in January 2020. He has been steering the Governorless Bank of Uganda since 2022 but in an update dominating headlines, Museveni has named him the new Bank of Uganda Governor.
The president also named Prof Augustus Nuwagaba as the New Bank of Uganda Deputy Governor replacing Atingi-Ego. These appointments come at a time when Police has hightened investigations into disappearance of Shs60bn from BoU accounts in a money heist last year that has left Ugandans wondering.
