The Judicial Service Commission has this evening denied and distanced itself from reports that president Museveni had appointed the Deputy Chief Justice, Justices to the Court of Appeal and another to the Supreme Court.

Reports swirled yesterday evening in major news outlets indicating that president Museveni had appointed Justice Flavian Zeija as the new Deputy Chief Justice replacing Justice Richard Butera who is retiring in April this year after clocking 70 years.

The reports also indicated that the President had also appointed Justice Muzamiru Mutanguuka Kibeedi to the supreme court. In the lists that made rounds on major media handles, the president had also 21 Justices to the high court for two years on acting capacity.

Further, the statement also indicated that embattled Justice Bukirwa Faridah had also been cleared and re-appointed to the high court on acting capacity for two years.

Now in another turn of events, the Judicial Service Commission has distanced itself from such reports clearly stating that the Commission has several channels of communication and the statement with the appointments is not from them.

“Reference is made to various publications concerning the appointment of the Deputy Chief Justice, Justices to the Supreme Court, Justices of the Court of Appeal, Judges of the High Court, and re-appointment of Hon. Lady Justice Bukirwa Faridah Shamilah. The Judicial Service Commission wishes to disassociate itself from these publications”-the statement reads in part.

In a statement released via their social media channels by the Acting Senior Communication Officer Ms Marie Theresa Nabulya, the Judicial Service Commission has stated that the news regarding the said appointments is not true and once such appointments are made, the public shall be informed.

“The Commission has established official channels through which all official communications are disseminated to stake holders. These include the official X account (@JSCUganda), the website (www.jsc.go.ug) and formal correspondence on official letterhead”- the statement further reads.
