The Anti-corruption on Wednesday remanded three NRM legislators Cissy Namujju [Lwengo District], Paul Akamba [Busiki County] and Yusuf Mutembuli [Bunyole East] to the cold gates Luzira prisons over ocrruption.
The Prosecution alleges that the three jailed MPs on 13th May 2024 at hotel Africana in Kampala solicited from Mariam Wangadya the Chairperson of the Uganda Human rights Commission an undue advantage of 20% of the anticipated enhanced budged of the UHRC for the financial year 2024/2025.

This was reportedly done by asserting that the MPs were able to exert improper influence over the decision making of the Budget Committee of the Parliament of Uganda to increase the UHCR budget in consideration of their 20% kickback.
Now after missing the Budget reading session yesterday at Kololo independence grounds, they have been brought back to court for their bail hearing today. The three presented their sureties whom prosecution said he needed time to verify their papers.
Cissy Namujju presented Muhammad Ssentayi the Bukoto West MP, Hajji Hassan Bulwadda owner of Bulwadda Clinics located at Bulwadda Mall Gayaza Road who is her business partner and long time friend and Ssemwwanga Gyavira MP for Buyamba County. Akamba presented Mariam Naigaga the Namutumba district MP, MP Robert Kasolo of the Iki Iki Constituency and MP Henry Kibalya Maurice as his sureties.
While Mutembuli on the other hand has presented Namukose Minsa Kirya, a community development officer in Mukono who is his sister as his sureties.
The Anti- Corruption Court has however denied bail to Hon. Cissy Namujju and Yusuf Mutembuli and remanded them till 17th June when they will return. Their third counterpart Paul Akamba was granted a UGX13 million cash and UGX100 million non cash bail.
Yesterday while presiding over the handover ceremony of the new leadership of the Uganda Parliamentary Forum on Youth Affairs (UPFYA) at parliament today morning, Deputy Speaker of parliament revealed that MPs should be carefully and be ready for anything if they continue being corrupt, he however said as parliament, they will stand with their arrested MPs until they’re pronounced guilty.
