Over 500 members of parliament who will serve in the 12th parliament have this afternoon voted for their speaker who will chair the plenary for the next 5 years until May 2031. Several Candidates vied for the number three Job but the battle attracted only three candidates; NRM’s Jacob- Oboth-Oboth, NUP’s Paul Mwiru and DP’s Norbert Mao who all put up a spirited fight to take the seat home.

Plenary which voted for the new Speaker was chaired by the Chief Justice Dr. Flavian Zeija alongside the clerk to parliament who pronounced several provisions in the rules of procedure among other laws which are suitable for the event.

President Museveni whose party NRM which has the numerical numbers in parliament and the Central Executive Committee fully endorsed their own candidates for this top job who have trounced candidates from other parties.

After the elections which were by secret ballot, NRM’s Jacob Oboth Oboth the West Budama Central legislator has been massively elected to lead this 12th parliament. He’s the outgoing Minister of Defense and Veteran affairs and was first endorsed by the first son Muhoozi Keinerugaba.

Oboth-Oboth (OO) got 441 votes and his closest challenger Mwiru Paul of the National Unity Platform got 60 votes while Norbert Mao came third with 15 votes
