By Mike Rwothomio A catastrophic multi-vehicle collision on the Kampala-Gulu Highway at Kitaleba Village, near Asili Farm, has resulted in 63 fatalities and multiple injuries, marking one of the deadliest road accidents in Uganda’s history. The incident, which occurred at 12:15 AM today, was confirmed by SP Kananura Michael, CLO/PRO Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety. The Uganda National Teachers Union (UNATU) has suspended the nation-wide teachers strike which had been on-going since the 3rd term officially began and with majority UPE schools spending over a month without pupils attending classes. In the news this morning, Kenya’s long serving opposition leader and former prime Raila Amolo Odinga has died in India where he had gone for treatment. His death follows speculation over his absence from the public for days. The opposition titan died at an Ayurvedic eye hospital-cum-research centre at Koothattukulam in Ernakulam district of Kerala in India on Wednesday (October 15, 2025). He was 80. On 21st August 2025, the Electoral Commission confirmed that 207 Ugandans had picked nomination papers to vie for the country’s top job in the general elections which will take place in January 2026. The incumbent President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was also among those who picked nomination papers saying he had some unfinished business and needs more five years.
