First initiated in Gulu City at Kaunda grounds during that only regional parliamentary seating in August 2024 and then briefly supported by those in the echelons of power but later abandoned along the way, Mityana South MP Richard Lumu has had his private member’s bill which sought to vote the Leader of Opposition collapse today on the floor of parliament. The idea of the Lumu bill came to life after Leader of Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi mobilized his fellow opposition legislators not to appear at the Regional parliamentary sitting from 28-30th August 2024 insisting it’s a wastage of tax payer’s money…
In December 2023, the Government of Uganda (GoU) made a significant commitment to the global climate agenda. Through the country’s energy minister, Hon. Ruth Nankabirwa, Uganda launched its Energy Transition Plan (ETP) at the 28th Conference of Parties (COP28) in Dubai, UAE. The plan is ambitious and forward-looking, signaling Uganda’s dedication to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and ensuring universal access to electricity by 2030. However, the path to a green future is paved with a resource that is rapidly gaining global attention: The ETP arrived at a moment of immense global demand for minerals deemed essential for clean energy. As the…

The whistle blower, in his four-page petition to the IGG and other investigating offices, claims that there is a group of powerful actors both in UNBS and MAAIF who have been conniving to keep Biteks around as NDA boss so that they continue frustrating the proposed strengthening of NDA as per the 28th October cabinet directive 2024. The whistle blower also complains as to…
The inspectorate of government has, in writing, blocked the inauguration of the new governing board for National Drug Authority (NDA). The deliberately very secretive swearing-in of the board was supposed to be held on Monday at 6am at Four Points by Sheraton in Kololo. For unknown reasons, the organizers who refused to invite the media reporters wanted it to be done very secretively so that whoever is unhappy with how the new board has been constituted can be advised to go to court where perpetrators are sure to secure a favourable judgment. In halting the planned inauguration, the inspectorate of…

Held in prison for long, denied bail, denied access to his doctors for proper medication and now he’s been denied prayers organized at Lubaga Cathedral. This time not on orders of a judge like Emmanuel Baguma but on orders of president Museveni through a call to the Archbishop Paul Ssemwogerere who was to lead the Mass today. As the clock ticked towards 2pm, leaders and supporters of Dr. Kiiza Besigye thronged Lubaga Cathedral to be part of the mass that had been organized to pray for the four time presidential candidate and other political prisoners. With every one confused on…

Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent. Fasting on Ash Wednesday is a common practice among many Christians, especially Roman Catholics and the Christian Orthodox churches, as a way to begin the season of Lent with humility and repentance. In Roman Catholic liturgy for Ash Wednesday, they use ashes made from the burned palm branches distributed on Palm Sunday of the previous year. The priest blesses the ashes and imposes them on the foreheads of the faithful, making the sign of the cross, saying, “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” It’s a reminder of…
