In the news this afternoon, National Unity Platform Deputy Spokesperson Waiswa Alex Mufumbiro has been violently abducted by armed people in Kampala. The news of his abduction has been shared by Leader of Opposition also party Spokesperson Joel Seenyonyi in his socials as NUP faces renewed abduction of its members in recent days. His abduction comes few days after the abduction of other party members like Habib Buwembo the party’s chief mobilizer and Bobi Giant who were also violently abducted by the army. Towards the end of last week, National Unity Platform (NUP) released lists of it’s flag bearers for local government at the level of City Mayors, Municipality mayors, Councilors upto the parish level after weeks of vetting by the party’s Electoral Management Committee. In a rather shocking development, court has remanded former Makerere University Business School (MUBS) principal Prof Wasswa Balunywa to Luzira prisons until 5th September this month after his first appearance following court summons issued two weeks ago. The National Unity Platform released the list of it’s flag bearers in Jinja City. All came as surprise for the position of Mayor. The party chose veteran politician Kirunda Mubarak as it’s flag bearer for Jinja mayorship and ditching the incumbent Peter Kasolo Okocha.
