In the news this afternoon, National Unity Platform (NUP) principal Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu has confirmed that he has left the country after months of hiding following the 2026 general elections where Museveni was declared with over 70%.

Bobi Wine escaped from his home on the night of 16th January after the military raided his home in a bid to arrest him. Prior to his escape, two of his deputy presidents Jacklyn Tukamushaba of Western Uganda and Dr. Lina Zedriga were all missing after being abducted by men in Uniform.

Since then police and army have maintained lock and key at his home denying every one access including his blood relatives who were told they needed permission to access their kin. Army continued raiding Bobi Wine’s home including one day when they assaulted his wife, confiscated her phones in a bid to pressure her to reveal her husband’s whereabouts.

On one hand government through Minister Chris Baryomunsi insists Bobi Wine is a free man and no one is looking for him while on another hand the Chief of Defense Forces Muhoozi Keinerugaba says Bobi Wine is wanted live or dead. This made Bobi Wine to continue hiding and even his children and wife also fled the country for safety.

“Over the past two months, the regime has looked for me everywhere. They have raided the homes of many colleagues and fellow leaders, mounted roadblocks and spot checks of vehicles and motorcycles, arrested and dismissed the officers assigned to my campaign, raided our home in the village, and kept my home under siege. Well, they couldn’t find me because the people of Uganda sheltered me and protected me”-Bobi Wine posted

In a long post with a video via his socials, Bobi Wine revealed that he’s briefly quitting the country to engage with his friends and allies and will return to the country to push for the end of Museveni’s four-decade rule.

“Today, I am announcing my brief exit from the country to handle important work. Over the next few weeks, I will engage with our friends and allies all over the world before returning to Uganda to continue the push for freedom and democracy! For now, let’s remain focused and united”-he further posted

Several of Bobi Wine supporters and fellow leaders are behind bars with their release not seen in the near future as courts continue the back and forth. Deputy President Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi, Deputy party spokesperson Waiswa Alex Mufumbiro, Doreen Kaija, All his Bodyguards (Achleo Kivumbi, Eddy Mutwe and others), Bobi Giant and many more are in jail including those those were arrested in 2021.

With Besigye in jail since November 2024 and all his bail applications rejected without, Bobi Wine faces the same predicament if he ever lands in the hands of those in power who have succeeded in silencing those who dare to challenge the statusquo.
