For the first time in over 30 years, Christians and Muslims will have commenced fasting on the same day a rare occurrence of Ramadan and Lent coinciding on the same day 18th February 2026.
The crescent of the moon was sighted yesterday 17th which meant that the Holly Month of Ramadan will commence today. Muslims normally fast for 28-30 days depending on when the next crescent of the moon is sighted.
Today is Ash Wednesday for Christians which commences the Lenten period largely for Catholics and Anglicans. Unlike Ramadan for Muslims, Lent for Christians stretch to forty days as seen in Matthew 4:1-11 and Luke 4:1-13
Eid-el-fitr will climax the holly month in the next 28 or 29 days marking an end of Ramathan while Palm Sunday, Holly Thursday, Good Friday and Easter on April 5th will commence the end of this years Lenten period.
