On the even of the 2026 General Elections, Deputy Presidents of the National Unity Platform (NUP) Dr. Linda Zedriga of Northern Uganda and Jolly Jacklyn Tukamushaba of Western Uganda were reportedly abducted by men in army uniform carrying heavily loaded guns.

The two have been missing since 14th January 2025. Their families and lawyers applied for Habeas Corpus in the courts of laws and government denied holding the two ladies in their custody something which added more misery to their relatives on the whereabouts of their people.

The Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) even when they were seen in a video bundling Tukamushaba in a waiting white Drone denied any involvement. Addressing the matter, Chris Magezi, the Acting Defense Public Information Officer said the army was not aware of any formally reported cases involving missing NUP members.

“The army is not aware of any formally reported cases regarding missing NUP members,” Magezi said, urging the opposition party to pursue recognized security and judicial channels. He further dismissed the claims, describing NUP’s allegations of missing party members as a “wave of drama.”

Coincidentally, Dr. Lina Zedriga was arraigned before the Gulu Magistrates court and charged with incitement of violence contrary to Section 79(1) of the Penal Code Act just like Jolly Jacklyn Tukamushaba who is also appearing before a court in Kabale facing the same charges.

The other Deputy president for Buganda Muhamad Muwanga Kivumbi is behind bars in Kitalya prison facing terrorism charges following the death of his 7 supporters inside his house who were shot by security operatives.

The only standing Deputy president of NUP is John Baptist Nambeshe for Eastern Region. The party president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine is also in hiding since 16th January and he says army and police have fully occupied his home. Government says he’s a free man who shouldn’t be hiding while the CDF Muhoozi Keinerugaba insists his army is pursuing Bobi Wine and want him live or dead.
