The Uganda Airlines stands straight as one of Uganda’s loss making Government Entities with losses of around Shs230billions despite the huge capitation just like the New Vision which is also swimming in losses for the last four years.
Issues of mismanagement and incompetence at the National Carrier were raised by the Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE) three years ago when the current leader of Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi was at it’s helm in 2022.
During the proceedings of Ssenyonyi’s COSASE, it was revealed that the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Uganda Airlines Jenifer Bamuturaki didn’t posses the qualifications of the job by the time she took over and herself opened up of how president Museveni appointed her even without applying for the job.

As the COSASE proceedings continued, Joel Ssenyonyi whose commission used to operate in the presence of media got some calls threatening him to go slow on the issues of Uganda airlines. He even at one time reported a case of being threatened by the tourism Minister Tom Butime over Bamuturaki issues because she’s his relative.
You will do Nothing She will remain in Office as long as She is interested , We shall even demostrate for her Salary increanment. She was Appointed by God’s Angel in Uganda . @KagutaMuseveni

Hon @JoelSsenyonyi in performance of statutory work, you should be guided the constitution, the attendant laws and the rules of procedure. The other aspect may be the usual decorum and conduct of MPs and committees so that the respondents don’t feel threatened.

As COSASE continued it’s work to squeeze officials from the Uganda airlines, President Museveni labeled Ssenyonyi as an opportunist who was acting of anger because the airline bosses refused to wet his beak with cash.
“There’s is no way you are going to stamp out corruption unless you start from Parliament. That’s where it resides. All those MPs now shouting about Uganda Airlines and Jennifer Bamuturaki; you may think they being serious about corruption. The truth is that they are just summoning those officials and talking tough on them but the real objective is to scare them into giving them bribes which must be resisted.”-Museveni said.
To further burry the truth inside the Uganda Airlines, speaker Anita Among invited Bamuturaki to her office, next was the Ssenyonyi-led COSASE to reduce on the speed of investigations and finally the Speaker rejected the COSASE report on Uganda Airlines from being tabled before parliament as she claimed it had leaked to the media and all went quiet just like that.
Towards the end of last year, it came to light that some aircraft were grounded especially the bombadiers whose spare parts were as scarce as free and fair elections in Uganda. Travelers started missing flights, financial mismanagement of top bosses taking home huge salaries of as big as Shs80m monthly which was hurting the loss making airline.
This is the time even those who blamed Ssenyonyi started coming out claiming they should have listened maybe they would have saved the sinking ship which is at it’s knees of collapse despite having been brought back to life few years ago.
As pressure continued to pile on Bamuturaki, it has been revealed that she’s stepping down from the position and another person will be hired to head the Uganda Airlines. In a leaked email she sent to the staff of the Airline, Bamuturaki revealed that the position will be advertised and they should check the website for the requirements.
