On 3rd this month, Rev Father Deus Ssekabila went missing after armed men in UPDF uniform driving in a drone abducted him from his office in Masaka city causing uncertainty and panic among the church, friends and family.
The Masaka Diocese Bishop the Rt Rev Serverus Jjumba authored a letter confirming the abduction of Father Ssekabira indicating that as the Church, they’ve done all they could to locate him but all in vain and even police revealed they don’t have him in their custody.
“Rev. Fr. Deusdedit Ssekabira, a priest of Masaka Diocese, a Curate at Bumangi Parish, was kidnapped by men in Uganda Army Uniforms, with a drone, on Wednesday 3rd December 2025 at 1:00pm, at Katwe in Masaka City, at his office as Director of Uplift Primary School”-reads the Bishop’s communication.
The Prelate also confirmed that on Monday last week, he asked all the priests in Masaka Diocese to do a Rosary Triduum (Praying the rosary for three consecutive days) with Sorrowful Mysteries, praying for the missing Priest. The Bishop asked all the Christians Masaka Diocese to also recite the rosary.
He expressed fear that history may repeat itself because 49 years ago during Amin’s regime a priest Msgr Clement Mukasa was kidnapped by men in army uniform never to be seen again until today.
“Iam doing this communication in Our Lady of Sorrows, Kitovu Cathedral, where on 12th July 1976, Msgr. Clement Mukasa was kidnapped and he has never been seen again”-the Bishop’s communication further reads.
Now after 11 days of holding Rev Fr. Ssekabira and seeing the Bishop’s Communication, the army has confirmed holding the missing priest. In a document signed by Col. Chris Magezi the Acting Director of Defense Public Information, the army has confirmed that they abducted the priest and they’re investigating him over subversive activities and will soon produce him to court.
“This is to confirm that Rev. Fr. Deusdedit Ssekabira of Masaka Diocese was recently arrested by the security forces for involvement in violent subversive activities against the state. Rev. Fr. Ssekabira is currently in lawful custody to assist with further investigations into the matter. He will be produced in the courts of law and charged accordingly”- reads the UPDF’s statement.
