BIG STORY: “I insist Vote Any Other Presidential Candidate As Long As It’s Not Museveni”- Akena To His Supporters

Uganda People’s Congress leader Jimmy Akena has in a very brave message to his supporters urged them to vote for any of the other 7 presidential candidates but not vote fo Museveni who is seeking to extend his grip to power to 45 years.

Akena who picked nomination forms from the Electoral Commission failed to make it to the ballot over power struggles in his own party which saw three candidates including himself picking presidential nomination papers claiming they were the rightful leaders of the party.

The Electoral Commission would later disqualify all the three claiming the party’s power struggles couldn’t have a presidential candidate.

Jimmy Akena’s UPC just like has been a cordial working relationship with NRM since 2016 with his serving in Museveni’s government as Minister for Kampala, Minister for Lands and now Minister for Gender, Labour and Social Development. But this friendship seems to be fading and may need new negotiations ahead of the 2026.

Unlike Norbert Mao’s Democratic Party which never presented a presidential candidate but openly endorsed president Museveni, UPC’s Jimmy Akena has not endorsed any candidate but instead cautioned his supporters to vote for any of the other 7 presidential candidate but avoid voting for Museveni whom he accuses of failing his presidential ambitions.

“Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is responsible for my disqualification and i have been communicating to all the members who supported Akena that its Museveni who is responsible for Akena not being on the ballot and as such, Yoweri Museveni can not benefit from Akena not being on the ballot. So any body who wants to vote for Akena please please, don’t vote for Museveni…” Akena said

The son of Obote has also urged his supporters that if one fails to chose from any of the 7 opposition candidates, they should instead just write his name Jimmy Akena on the ballot and just make them invalid votes since the Byabakama-led Electoral Commission rejected his presidential bid over flimsy grounds.

“If you want to vote for any of the seven candidates, please go on i have no difficult with you but i insist do not vote for Yoweri Kaguta Museveni….If you can not vote for the seven, you take your ballot paper and write the name Akena…”- he further said.

The UPC kingpin also blasted the security forces of beating Ugandans like cows urging them that they’re also Ugandans and even when voting is done, their families also go to the same hospitals like any other citizen.

“We are all Ugandans and after elections we should be in Uganda. We should not be meting out this kind of unreasonable unfettered injustice in the full view. I have seen people who the highest training to defend the people of Uganda unleashing that training on the people of Uganda, that’s wrong…..” Akena said
