In yet another sad turn of events, a 16 year old student of Excel High School Mukono has died after spending three days in coma at the St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor in Gulu city today afternoon. The deceased had returned home in Gulu for holidays where he has met his death.

The deceased has been identified as Joshua Leon Otim who succumbed to injuries he sustained on Saturday in Gulu City as armed gangs, police and army descended on supporters of National Unity Platform and beat them like cows.

Otim is among those who tested the ruthlessness of the UPDF, Police and hired armed gangs who caused mayhem in the streets and at the rally venue in what has been seen as a raise in violence against Bobi Wine and his supporters orchestrated by the army and police.

According to the deceased’s mother Ms Margret Aceng, her son was hit on the head with a blunt object, he slipped into comma until today when he died at the Lacor Hospital. In the same scuffle, Bobi Wine’s aide also Music producer Dan Magic was hit on the head sustaining a huge cut and is currently undergoing treatment.

As the viral videos of the beatings went viral eliciting mixed reactions, different political actors, Electoral Commission and the Uganda Human Rights Commission have condemned the barbaric actions of police and army and called for swift investigations into such chaos.

Speaking at a weekly security briefing yesterday, Police Spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke regretted the actions of the security agencies and also urged cops to exercise restraint and also cosmetically confirmed that investigations into the matter have since commenced.

As of today several actors have said it that the UPDF seems to be overtaking police’s responsibilities in this election. Several army officers have been seen openly campaigning for president Museveni clearly indicating they’re fully partisan but beating people in the guise of enforcing electoral guidelines.

Otim joins other innocent Ugandans who have died since the campaigns began. On 28th November, Mesach Okello was shot dead in Iganga after attending Bobi Wine’s rally as army and police opened fire on Kyagulanyi supporters who were returning home.
