Kadongokamu musician also the National Unity Platform MP candidate for Busiro East Mathias Walukagga has been denominated from the race the electoral Commission causing jitters and panic in the Kyagulanyi camp.
His denomination follows a petition to the commission challenging the papers which Walukagga used for nomination. In the petition, Walukagga’s certificate of Mature Age/Aptitude test he presented for nomination had long expired.
“Further, the petitioner contended that, at the time the Certificate of Mature Age/ Aptitude Test was used for nomination by Walukaga Mathias, on the 23rd of October, 2025, it had expired; thus rendering it invalid”- reads part of the ruling by the electoral commission.
Mathias Walukaga in 2021 was voted the LC3 Chairperson of Kyengera Town Council in Wakiso district. In the years preceding to the 2026 general elections, he went back to school and sat mature aptitude tests at the Islamic University of Uganda (IUIU) in 2023 since he was eyeing an MP seat.
Even when his papers were questioned, Walukagga revealed that he’s safe and is even a student at St. Lawrence University pursuing a Degree in Public Administration and set to graduate next year. How was he admitted for a degree course? all these are questions.
In the race, Walukagga was contending majorly with long term legislator Medard Lubega Ssegona who was denied the NUP ticket and is contesting as an independent candidate. Walukagga’s removal from the race is a big blow to the National Unity Platform camp because his campaign had gained momentum and Ssegona was being seen as a limping and the kadongokamu singer was a favorite.
Electoral Commission has in this election has denominated several candidates over academic papers and some over nomination signatures. The same electoral commission yesterday threw out a petition by Rwemiyaga legislator and candidate Theodre Ssekikubo to denominate retired army General Emmanuel Rwashande over academic papers and nomination signatures.
