Nation Media Group the mother company of NTV Uganda, Daily Monitor, Spark TV, KFM, Dembe FM and several other brands are still puzzled and rolling heads to find exactly what moved parliament to kick out their journalists from covering events inside parliament.
NMG journalists were shocked yesterday when they reached parliamentary avenue at the entrance of the parliament and were told to go back home with their accreditation tags withdrawn by the security.
This would later dominate the deliberations on the floor of parliament when Butambala MP Muhammed Muwanga Kivumbi sitting in for Leader of Opposition of Joel Ssenyonyi tasked the Deputy Speaker who was presiding over the house to explain why journalists from NMG have been kicked out.
The same was re-iterated by Kira Municipality legislator Ibrahim Ssemuju Nganda a journalist by profession who equally tasked parliament to explain why Nation Media Journalists were blocked from parliament.
Parliament now joins State House which blocked Nation Media Journalists especially from Daily Monitor and NTV which blocked them for the last 5 months from covering their events. Even when they try to attend state events or presidential events, they’re told by security to peacefully leave.
As other media houses are covering Museveni’s campaign rallies, Daily monitor and NTV journalists are not allowed anywhere near the man with the hat who has ruled the country for four decades.
President Museveni has severally referred to Daily Monitor and NTV as enemies of the NRM government. By the time of filing this story, there was no official communication from parliament headed by the very powerful speaker Annette Anita Among on why NMG is unwelcome.
