Emmanuel Rwashande is a currently a new name propping up in the politics of the chaotic Ssembabule District. He shot to the limelight when he decided to retire from the army to contest against long serving Member of Parliament for Lwemiyaga County Theodre Ssekikubo.
Rwashande contested in the NRM primaries and won though Ssekikubo questions the circumstances under which the retired army General clinched victory in the chaotic Lwemiyaga NRM polls, he contested the results and even petitioned the NRM elections tribunal to overturn it but his prayers were not granted and instead Rwashande’s victory was held.
Before Rwashande was nominated by the Tanga Odoi-led NRM Electoral Commission, Ssekikubo in a viral video punched holes in Rwashande’s academic documents which he cliamed were only fit for him ride a boda boda but not stand for Member of parliament because he had no formal education.
According to Ssekikubo, the Retired Army General had no Primary Seven, Senior Four or Senior six. That the Papers which Rwashande presented to the NRM electoral Commission were lacking. He pointed out UPDF certificates and awards which the retired General presented.
For example, Rwashande presented a certificate presented to him by UPDF in 1982 even before the establishment of UPDF. However, all the doubts were later brought to an end when National Council for Higher Education equated Rwashande’s military trainings to A level certificate.
It was also revealed that Rwashande was already a student at the Entebbe-based Nkumba University pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations and Diplomacy and was in his last semester and would be due for graduation.
Over the weekend, Nkumba University held it’s 27th Graduation ceremony at it’s main campus in Entebbe where over 2000 students walked away with Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates in various disciplines in an event which was graced by Deputy speaker Thomas Tayebwa.
Retired Army General Emmanuel Rwashande was among those who graduated, his graduation never came as a surprise but getting a first class degree in International Relations and Diplomacy is what caught the attention of many.
Among those wondering how the old Rwashande clinched a first class Degree is former Vice Chancellor and former Presidential Candidate Prof Venansius Baryamureeba who has even placed a Shs100m bet towards the campaigns of Rwashande if he re-sits the same exams he did at Nkumba and passes them.
I want to bet that if he sits for one paper where he has an A and gets an A under a neutral examiner that is not a staff of Bukoba University, I shall contribute ugx 100M to his campaign. https://t.co/lLV0ihOhXZ
