A sense of confusion and amusement is swirling on the internet after a presidential candidate being seen in a video campaigning for president Museveni instead for himself just before nominations a month ago.
Robert Kasibante the presidential candidate on the National Peasants Party has been thrown in the spotlight after he was captured campaigning for president Museveni a month ago before he later got nominated last week.
Appearing at a local television, Kasibante found hard time to explain how he campaigned for Museveni weeks and now wants to unseat the same person he praised that he was the right person for presidency.
According to Kasibante, he had earlier wanted to contest in Busujju on independent for Member of parliament but decided to befriend Museveni just to be able to understand his ways so that he can oust him through the elections next year.
National Peasants Party has in recent days been embroiled in confusion after their party president Stecia Mayanja Faridah was seen dancing and singing at Museveni’s rally at Kololo while her party presidential candidate was being nominated at Electoral Commission.
The party summoned her, she never appeared and the it opted to chase her away to save it’s face and embarrassment. She also later addressed journalists and revealed that she had resigned as president of National Peasant’s party and also left the party.
Every general election, there have always been allegations of government picking and sponsoring some presidential candidates in a bid to counter opposition support. Shortly after the 2021 General elections, allegations that Museveni bankrolled FDC’s presidential campaigns in the last election reached a boiling point last year and split the party into two factions of Katonga and Najjanankumbi.
FDC which sits at Najjanankumbi has moved on and steadily healing from the sharp divisions and have Nandala Mafabi as their presidential candidate in this election while the move away group led by Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago formed a new political party which they named People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) and sits at Katonga road.
