The National Unity Platform has released the list of successful candidates to carry the party flag in the upcoming general elections. After a long wait, the lists are now out and have surprised many.
While handing over the file with lists to her party president before he hit the road to Jinja for his manifesto launch, NUP’s Electoral Management Committee chairperson Harriet Chemutai assured Bobi Wine that her team had done the best with the best candidates to contest in 2026.
After a long of presidential campaigns in Jinja, NUP has now released the first batch of successful candidates starting with Buganda.
In a surprising turn of events, musician Nina Rose will be the women MP party’s flag bearer for Ssembabule district. Veteran politician Medard Lubega Ssegona has been dropped and instead the flag has been awarded to musician Mathias Walukagga. NTV’s Zungulu voice maker Ivan Kyeyune has also been handed the flag for Nakasongola county.
Geofrey Lutaya has retained the flag in Kakuto county, Lubowa Ssebina Gyavira has taken the flag in Nyendo Mukungwe, Kayemba Solo has also retained the flag in Bukomansimbi south.
In Mityana, Francis Zaake has retained it in Mityana Mucipality while Joy Bagala has been dropped for Mityana District and the flag has been handed to Mukisa Proscovia. Bobi Wine’s sister Ssentamu Betty has been given the flag for Gomba women MP while Aisha Kabanda and Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi have retained the flag for Women MP Butambala District and Butambala county respectively.
In Kampala city, Shamim Malende has retained the flag while Zahara Luyilika has settled for Makindye West. David Lewis Rubongoya for Kampala Central, Kasilya Ali Nganda for Makindye East, Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro for Nakawa East, Joel Ssenyonyi for Nakawa West, Kawalya Abubaker for Lubaga North, Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu for Kawempe South, Nalukoola Erias for Kawempe North, and Eugenia Nassolo for Lubaga South
