Towards the end of last week, National Unity Platform (NUP) released lists of it’s flag bearers for local government at the level of City Mayors, Municipality mayors, Councilors upto the parish level after weeks of vetting by the party’s Electoral Management Committee.
The released lists with names brought happiness to those who got the NUP ticket but left those who missed with complaints. Majority of those were left out have even indicated that they’ll come independent while others have sought refugee in new political parties.
Prominent among include Nakawa Division where the party flag was handed to Bobi Wine’s right hand man Ali Bukeni alias Nubian li, Kirunda Mubarak was given the party flag for Mayor Jinja City, in Kawempe the incumbent Emmanuel Sserunjoji was handed the flag while in Kira Municipality, Hajji Ssemwanga Norman Kabogoza.
In this, Paul Mugambe of Nakawa, Peter Kasolo Okocha of Jinja city, Hajji Latif Ssebagala in Kawempe and Julius Mutebi Nsubuga of Kira municipality were all left furious and have already declared independent bids.
As the bible says in Mathew 11:28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and i will give you rest”, new political parties People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) and Democratic Front (DF) have welcome disgruntled NUP members with open arms in their bid to atleast get party tickets which they were not given in NUP.
Following the chaotic Democratic Party (DP) internal elections were he lost to Norbert Mao, Bwikwe South MP Dr. Lulume Bayiga joined PFF just a day to it’s first Delegates Conference at Katonga road. Similarly after missing the NUP card, Kira Municipality MP Julius Mutebi Nsubuga has also crossed to PFF with some 10 members in a bid to secure a party ticket.
At Namirembe Road, former Leader of Opposition Mathias Mpuuga and Lubega Mukaaku were also welcoming disgruntled NUP members into his new party Democratic Front.
