President Museveni has appointed the Director of Public Prosecutions Jane Francis Abodo to a new position as Principal Judge replacing Justice Flavian Zeija who was appointed Deputy Chief Justice two months ago.
In a letter to the Speaker of parliament, president Museveni has forwarded Abodo to the Parliament’s Appointments Committee for vetting who will approve her appointment.
“In exercise of the powers vested in the President by Article 142 (1) f the 1995 Constitution, I have acting on the advice of the Judicial Service Commission appointed Hon. Lady Justice Abodo Jane Frances as a Principal Judge.”-Museveni’s letter to Speaker of parliament reads in part.
The letter has since been confirmed by his Deputy Press Secretary Kirunda Faruke on his social media pages.
I hereby confirm that the letter circulating on social media regarding appointment of Hon. Lady Justice Jane Francis Abodo as the new Principal Judge is authentic.
Her name has been forwarded to Parliament for the necessary approval.

Abodo who boasts of a long career spanning to over 20 years in the judiciary becomes the first woman to be appointed Principal judge. The position she takes is the third most powerful in the hierarchy of the judiciary after the Chief Justice and the Deputy Chief Justice.
