Lawyer Sarah Bireete has advised former Speaker Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga to stop crying over what many see as spoilt milk in her bid to retain the position of 2nd Vice Chairperson female where she’s facing speaker Anita Among who seems very determined to finish her off.
NRM delegates after attending a stormy National Executive council at state house graced by the party chairperson president Museveni yesterday, they will be attending the National Delegate’s conference later this week on Wednesday and Thursday.
Top on the agenda in the Wednesday elections at Kololo is the election of new members to the Central Executive Committee (CEC) which is the party’s apex body chaired by president Museveni. Those who sit on this top body get privileges and a salary almost like that of Ministers.
ADVERT:

The position of party Chairperson is permanently reserved for president Museveni, no one stands against him. The other person who has been saved the contest is Alhajj Moses Kigongo who is also unopposed for the position of the 1st National Vice Chairperson after his opponent was booted out.
Apart from those two top positions, the other posts like 2nd National Vice Chairperson Female has two candidates Kadaga and Anita Among. The others include Vice Chairperson Kampala, Karamoja, Western, Northern and Eastern. Entrepreneurs league and Women’s league positions are also up for heated contestations.
Kadaga faced off with president Museveni and questioned why the guidelines which require an aspiring candidate for such position meant to state what they have done for the party for the last 10 years have been flaunted. According to her, these seem to have been softened in favor of Anita Among who has openly belonged to the NRM for only three years.
This is not the first time Museveni is keeping a deaf ear in saving Kadaga from the heat of contestations. Even in the last CEC elections in 2020, she faced off with State Minister for Urban Development Persis Namuganza who claimed she was bringing new energy in the position. Kadaga won by a huge margin but the bitter fight of Anita Among and Namuganza in parliament pushed her back to mend ties with Kadaga.
Namuganza is now in good terms with Kadaga and is her campaigning manager. In Busoga where Anita Among married Moses Magogo (she has built Team Mulamu) while Kadaga who is the face of Busoga’s politics has also established Team Mama.
Kadaga in her bitter faceoff with Museveni revealed that despite being part of the party from it’s inception, serving as RC 1, RC2 and later to the National Resistance Council before joining the August House in 1995 as one of the Constituents who made the current constitution, the party she has served her entire life is hellbent in disregarding values, principles, loyalty and integrity for new comers like Anita Among.
By the look of things, Kadaga seem to be fighting a lost battle as the favors are shifting to Anita Among who says in the little time she’s been in the party, she’s mobilized for it and she brings new energy to the NRM from the FDC where she was a member before breaking ranks with Nandala Mafabi.
As the battle proceeds to the boiling point on Wednesday when delegates vote their new leaders. Seasoned lawyer and activist Sarah Bireete has urged Kadaga to ditch NRM, join opposition and dislodge Museveni from his 4-decade rule which he’s set to extend to 45 years in his new presidential bid.
According to Bireete, Kadaga bred and entrenched a political system which is now choking whoever helped it’s establishment. She further says Kadaga and people like her owe Ugandans a nobel duty to end the same system which is choking them. She urges Kadaga to join the forces of change ahead of the 2026 General Elections.
“The problem with the likes of Kadaga is that they bred a kind of leadership that will eventually choke everyone of them out of their seats. They should never have allowed our democracy to degenerate to the current context. They now owe a duty to Ugandans to collectively end it. Madam Kadaga, join others in the quest for change. Uganda deserves better”- Bireete posted
In her 30+ years political career, Kadaga was in parliament serving as Deputy Speaker when MPS removed term limits in 2005. It’s the same year through a referendum that Ugandans saw the return of multi-party democracy. It was Kadaga as Speaker who presided over parliament which removed the age limit from the constitution in 2017 giving Museveni more life on presidency.
So those outside NRM are bashing Kadaga saying she deserves the treatment and bitter reception she’s receiving from the party she has served because she helped to entrench the same to where it is today.
I don’t know why I felt so bad at the way @NRMOnline and @KagutaMuseveni humiliated @RebeccaKadagaUG – Rt Hon Rebecca Kadaga has done so much work for Uganda and the Women Movement in particular, shortfalls not withstanding.
The problem with the likes of Kadaga is that they… pic.twitter.com/5wBSBv9IbB
