In the news this afternoon, a Ugandan Military supporting the African Union Somali Stabilization Mission has crashed at the Aden Adde International Airport in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu.
The crash took place inside the specifically inside the Halane Base Camp, which houses foreign nationals, diplomats, and military personnel from several countries, including the United States.
The helicopter was reportedly bound for Baledogle Military Airfield to the north of Mogadishu, which is operated by the U.S. Air Force and the African Union Stabilization Support Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).
Reports indicate that the Chopper was having atleast eight passengers and crew onboard at the time of the crash, according to the Somali Civil Aviation Authority. The fire was quickly contained by the Emergency Services.
Preliminary reports indicate that there have been fatalities and those injured but the number is not yet known.
