Ahead of the 2026 General elections which are looming, several legislators have officially crossed from the political parties in which they joined parliament in 2021 to join others. Some have joined already existing parties while others have joined newly formed parties of less than 1 month.

Notable among these include Dr. Twaha Kagabo of Bukoto South who left NUP to join NRM. The others include Mathias Mpuuga of Nyendo-Mukungwe, Dr Abed Bwanika of Kimanya- Kabonera, Micheal Kakembo of Entebbe Municipality and Juliet Nakabuye Kakande Women Representative who have joined the newly formed Democratic Front.

However the most affected so far seems to be Forum for Democratic Change which has faced a mass exodus of MPS. Two of these Dr. Timothy Batuwa of Jinja South West and Isabirye David Aga have both joined National Unity Platform while Anthony Akol of Kilak North and Ongiertho Emmanuel Jor of Jonam County, Moses Okot P’Bitek of Kioga County have defected to the NRM.

The others include Ibrahim Ssemuju Nganda of Kira Municipality, Asinansi Nyakato of Hoima city, Moses Kabuusu of Kyamuswa, Kamara Nicolas of Kabale municipality, Atkins Katushabe of Bukonzo West Constituency, Harold Muhindo of Bukonzo East, Naboth Namanya of Rubabo county, Francis Mwijukye of Buhweju and former Leader of Opposition Betty Awor Ochan of Gulu City who have all defect to People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) which is a runaway faction from the FDC of Najjanankumbi.

Paulson Lutamaguzi Ssemakula of Nakaseke South, Fortunate Nantongo of Kyotera district, John Paul Mpalanyi of Kyotera County who have defected from Mao’s Democratic Party to the National Unity Platform. Jimmy Lwanga of Njeru Municipality also defected from NUP to Muhoozi’s PLU but might swim back to NRM.

No one has officially crossed from the ruling party but we anticipate ahead of the transfer season of politicians. We shall bring you more of these. The other parties which have not been too busy in the transfer window to receive sitting MPs include Mugisha Muntu’s Alliance for National Transformation (ANT), Akena’s UPC, Asuman Basalirwa’s JEEMA, Mao’s Democratic Party and Forum for Democratic Change.
