BOMB BLAST: IGP Byakagaba Speaks Out, Says Security Is In Control

Amidst the celebration of the Uganda Martyrs Days in Namugongo, panic gripped residents in Munyonyo and those at the Martyrs Basilica in the same place after a bomb reportedly exploded killing two people.

Witness accounts reveal the two a man and a woman were moving on a motor bike before a bomb exploded on them killing them instantly just before reaching the Martyrs Basilica in Munyonyo. At the scene of the explosion two bodies are scene smashed lying in the mid of the road.

Speaking from the scene, Inspector General of Police Abbas Byakagaba reveals there was an explosion that left the bombers dead but he urged Ugandans to remain calm as the country celebrates the Uganda martyrs day.

“There has been an explosion here, but the most important message to our people that they should remain calm, we are in control and all the security forces are here present. We are just preserving this scene such that it is well investigated. So far, no by-standers or people nearby have been injured apart from those who were on the motorcycle”- says IGP Byakagaba

The IGP has also called upon Ugandans to be vigilant be conscious with their surroundings.
