Following news of a bomb blast in Kampala near the Munyonyo Martyrs Basilica, it has been revealed that the suicide bombers were on a mission to harm the church goers but their mission was prematurely cut short.
Despite two accounts of the incident where the police and the IGP say the two people riding on motorbike exploded on their own as they got closer to the Basilica and another account by the UPDF that it shot the suicide bombers in an intelligence led operation before they got access to the Basilica, one of the two who died has been identified.
In the latest development, security has now linked the lady killed to the November 2021 bomb blast in Kampala which left several dead and injured scores at the Kampala CPS and near parliament.
According to security the lady killed is said to be a daughter to the man who detonated the bomb on himself near the entrance of the Central Police Station (CPS) in Kampala. The Allied Defense Forces (ADF) later claimed responsibility of the twin bombings in Kampala.
Intelligence officials account reveal that she was wearing a suicide vest and attempted to access the Munyonyo Basilica where prayers were taking place as the country commemorates the Uganda Martyrs day. She was intercepted by security operatives who shot her and the vest exploded.
