Owekitiibwa Honorable Mathias Mpuuga the Member of Parliament for Nyendo-Mukungwe has unveiled a new political party ahead of the 2026 general elections where president Museveni will be contesting to extend his rule to 45 years.

Mpuuga broke chains with National Unity Platform last year when he received a Shs500m service award from the parliamentary commissioner where he sits as a commission. NUP until now insists that what Mpuuga received tantamount to corruption. Efforts to have him apologize hit dead ends.

Bobi Wine would later suspend Mpuuga as his Deputy President in charge of Buganda and he replaced him with Muhammed Muwanga Kivumbi who is also the Chairperson of the Buganda Parliamentary caucus.

Prior to joining NUP under the DP block which was an opposition side with the Democratic party, Mpuuga was a staunch DP member who even supported former Premier John Patrick Amama Mbabazi’s presidential bid under The Democratic Alliance (TDA) after ditching Besigye during the 2016 General elections.

Mpuuga after breaking ranks with NUP, launched a political formation which he named the Democratic Alliance with his four political allies Moses Kasibante, Mike Mabiike, Samuel Walter Lubega Mukaaku and Abed Bwanika of which two of these own their own political parties. Bwanika owns People’s Development Party (PDP) while Mabiike owns Social Democratic Party (SDP).

At the Democratic Alliance offices in Namirembe, Mathias Mpuuga has unveiled a political party named Democratic Front Party (DFP) and revealed that the party will be unveiling it’s mission, vision, objectives, it’s leaders ahead of the 2026 general elections.

The certificate of registration issued to this party on 6th May 2025 shows that the party has been a brief case party which was existing before under the name Green Partisan Party and Mpuuga just like NUP must have approached the owners to rename it to Democratic Front Party.

Reports also suggest that Mpuuga has been harboring plans to unseat Museveni and might use this new political party to contest in the 2026 general elections which he has largely called useless without the much needed political reforms which he has been pushing through.

Ahead of the political season, former Members of FDC who sit at Katonda have also finished registering their new party People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) while another sprinter group from Bobi Wine’s NUP is finalizing the registration of of People Power Front (PPF).
