MTN Uganda continued its tradition of celebrating excellence and partnerships at the May edition of the MTN Monthly Tee, held at the scenic Entebbe Club. This special edition, dubbed the “Next Gen Accountants Edition,” honoured the vital role of professional accountants and celebrated the long-standing contributions of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU).

Hosted by MTN Uganda’s Chief Financial Officer and avid golfer, Andrew Bugembe, the event brought together golfers, business leaders, financial experts, and media under one unifying theme: “Together, our Compliance is Unstoppable.”

The MTN Monthly Tee is a monthly highlight on the local golfing calendar. However, this edition stood out for its focus on professional compliance, financial integrity, and the evolving role of accountants in today’s digital economy. The event paid tribute to the ICPAU — Uganda’s national professional accountancy body — whose mandate under the Accountants Act includes regulating the standard of accountancy and conduct of accountants in Uganda.

Speaking at the vibrant 19th Hole Celebration, Andrew Bugembe remarked:

“Accountants are the silent guardians of financial transparency and business sustainability. This Monthly Tee is our way of recognizing their invaluable contribution. As MTN, we believe that when compliance meets innovation, we unlock real progress. That’s what makes our partnership with ICPAU so timely and relevant.”

Bugembe emphasized that MTN Uganda’s continued investment in digitization, AI, and financial systems relies heavily on strong accounting practices. “We celebrate the individuals and institutions who ensure financial integrity, often behind the scenes, but whose work is foundational to Uganda’s economic progress.”

Speaking at the event, CPA Ronald Mutumba, the Vice President of ICPAU, emphasized the urgency for utilising the services of professional Accountants.

“Accountants have a fundamental duty to serve and honor the public trust, and this requires a grounding in professional knowledge, skills and agreeing to being regulated,” said Mutumba.

“Additionally, membership of the national Professional Accountancy Organization is key to reinforcing compliance with national laws and reaping significant career milestones as we develop our country,” Ronald added.

He further acknowledged the significance of sport in nurturing versatile professionals, thanking MTN Uganda for the partnership.

“ICPAU is pleased to partner with MTN Uganda in organizing the Next Gen Accountants golf edition,” he said.

“As a membership organization, we believe that physical well-being is a critical component of a member’s professional development, and while at it, we engage and build our social capital,” added Ronald.

Beyond the formalities, the day saw spirited competition on the green, with exceptional performances from golfers across various categories. The top players of the day were later recognized during the prize-giving ceremony at the 19th hole.
