In a quite pathetic but strong passion for over staying power without fear or favor, Rtd Gen Moses Ali has stirred controversy after a video making rounds on social media shows him speaking to his voters seeking another term.
Moses Ali is the current Member of parliament for Adjumani West is one of Museveni’s long serving ministers and one of the long serving members of parliament. He served in Amin’s regime in several dockets, Amin first appointed him Minister of Provincial administration (Interior) in 1973.
Amin would later appoint him Minister of finance in 1975 and when Museveni took over government in 1986, he appointed him Minister for Youth, Culture and Sports on 27th July the same year 1986 and was later elected as a National Resistance Council Member (NRC) for East Moyo.
Moses Ali was then Minister of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities in 1994 later to parliament representing East Moyo county then appointed 3rd Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities in 1995 and since then he has been changing between 2nd Deputy Prime Minister and 3rd Deputy Prime Minister till date.
His health has been declining in recent years and he once collapsed in parliament two years ago. He last year revealed that he still has energy to continue representing his people despite not being able to talk or walk properly.
In a video making rounds on social media, Moses who was today at Boma grounds in Yumbe district to represent President Museveni is seen telling his electorates to vote for him again come next year 2026. This has elicited mixed reactions with many Ugandans questioning if the whole of Adjumani district can’t produce a young and energetic legislator to continue his legacy.
Many Ugandan leaders draw their strong inspiration of over staying in power from the President who has ruled Uganda since 1986 and will be making 40 years next year with all signs showing that the 81 year old Museveni will contest again and his supporters have already started pushing his presidency under the Jaja Tova Ku Main.
The other long serving legislators who are pushing for more years in parliament include former Speaker Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, Jim Muhwezi, Theodre Ssekikubo, Abdul Katuntu, Nathan Nandala Mafabi, Betty Amongi among others.
