Speaking, during the official handover of the River Fada bridge site to contractor Whimsy Construction Ltd, on Monday locals who thronged the site shared their excitement saying they now have hope.

Isaac Ngagenu, the Zombo district civil engineer, revealed that the bridge spans 12metress with three Cells.

“We have handed over Fada box culverts construction of three Cells, an overall span of 12metres, and we expect the project to be finished within six months.”  Ngagenu explained

Francis Ujuru, Whimsy contractor assured the work is already in progress promising to deliver within the stipulated time frame.

Assistant district resident Commissioner, Zombo, Bruno Mananu Ubomba, warned the contractor, from compromising work quality. “we want value for money and quality assurance.” Mananu remarked

He rallied the locals to monitor project works and own it.

The Zombo LC V Chairman, James Uruna Uyulu, commended the government, European Union and UNCDF for supporting the projects which are vital to drive social economic transformation and climate mitigation.

“This project has dragged on for a long time due to inadequate resources, so today we are so grateful.” He emphasized

Daniel Ujigi Chidhu, 98 community elder shared a heartfelt ordeal, “for several decades’ locals were stressed faced due to lack of a comfortable bridge at the spot paralyzing social economic development in the area.”

Ujigi said several natives of the area have abandoned their ancestral place and settled to areas where they can access services like schools, health facilities, markets and others.

He observed that development will attract more people to the area.

“I can recall, one moment the British government talked about constructing this bridge and the Dr. Obote government had an idea to construct this bridge but it was disrupted by Idi Amin Dada over throwing his government.” Ujigi

He commended the government for coming with this development believing it a turning moment for the youth adding that they should benefit from this infrastructure once completed.

Gilbert Onenchan, the LC I Chairman of Ubimu Cell, asserted that this is going to quick movement of mothers who seek antenatal care since the area lacked proper connection to areas of health facilities.

Laurence Biyika Songa MP for Ora county who is also chairperson Climate change in parliament, observed that Zombo implemented the piloting projects well, and hence parliament has allocated more funds for river Fada bridge.

Songa added that the government and partners are going to implement more projects under climate smart agriculture in Zombo district.

He says this project is going to see upgrade of 22kms road including constructing River Nyagak bridge, vital for linking farming communities of Mudhel and yil in Lower Anyola parish, Atyak sub-county to Paidha town, Zombo town, Nebbi town and Arua city respectively.
