The voices calling for the release of firebrand opposition politician Dr. Kiiza Besigye continue getting louder everyday ever since he appeared in court last week looking week, frail and struggling to breathe.
Following the supreme court ruling which barred the trial of civilians in the military courts, Besigye’s trial has been in jeopardy with government playing delaying tactics to transfer all active cases to civilian cases. Besigye’s case would have been forwarded to the High Court to be able to apply for bail but all seems to be far fetching.

Reports hit headlines indicating that Dr. Kiiza Besigye’s situation had worsened and was rushed to a clinic at Village Bugolobi in Kampala under tight security and was later taken back to Luzira prisons.
This has sparked protests in Kampala and some other parts in the country calling for his release. Deputy Lord Mayor Doreen Nyanjura led protests around Arua park in Kampala but police arrested them before they could go far.
Several opposition leaders led by Bobi Wine, Leader of Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi, Winnie Kiiza among others stormed Luzira Prisons to check on Dr. Kiiza Besigye but they were not granted chance and instead prison authorities told them that Besigye was not able to see them.
Several opposition leaders have converged at National Unity Platform Headquarters in Makerere- Kavule and all agreed in unison to give Museveni’s government a 48 hour ultimatum to release Besigye and other political prisoners. These appreciated whoever has shown concern verbally and in action to demand for Besigye’s release.
In a document read by Bobi Wine franked by other opposition leaders like Gen Mugisha Muntu, Chairman Wasswa Birigwa, Winnie Kiiza, Alice Alaso among others have indicated that once Besigye and other political prisoners are not released in the 48 hours. They’ll mobilize Ugandans to
“We appreciate all Ugandans that have shown concern and many of them are pratically and verbally in solidarity with Dr. Kiiza Besigye and all other political prisoners. together, we are issuing a 48-hour ultimatum to the regime to release Dr. Kiiza Besigye and other political prisoners in compliance of the supreme court ruling. If not, we shall announce a series of national action for people to rise up and end this impunity”-Bobi Wine said.
