A dark cloud of sorrow is today hovering above the Ugandan parliament after the death of Kawempe North MP Muhammad Ssegirinya and former Member of parliament Margaret Baba Diri who was once Koboko women MP and also represented persons with disabilities until 2021.
She lost her seat to former president Idi- Amin’s grand daughter Dr. Sharifa Aate in the 2021 general elections. Baba Diri first joined parliament as Koboko Women representative in 1996 and would later represent persons with disabilities for several terms in parliament.
The news of her passing was delivered on today afternoon on the floor of parliament by the Koboko county MP James Boliba Baba. She was the founder of Kochi Secondary school and Koboko District Farmers’ association.

Diri was pronounced dead at a health facility in Kawempe where she had been rushed for medical attention. She becomes the 2nd former legislator to die in a space of just one month after Dr. Frank Nabwiso who died last year on 14th December 2024 and laid to rest in Jinja.
