President Museveni after failing to secure the majority votes with his then newly established party UPM decided to launch a guerilla war against a legitimately elected government of Dr Milton Oboto in 1981.
The war would later drag on for 5 years leaving 1000s displaced and others in 1000s dead in the greater Luwero triangle and on 26 January 1986, Museveni’s National Resistance Army (NRA) emerged victorious and took over government and has been around for now close to 40 years ruling Ugandans and has plans to extend this to 45 years in the coming elections of 2026.

However, despite returning multi-partyism through a referendum held in July 2005, opposition politicians have always labeled the periodical elections as a mere ritual to extend the Museveni rule in the guise of democracy since all is done with the help of the guns always.
Now Minister of Lands and Urban Development Hon Judith Nabakooba has lashed at those who criticize and demean president Museveni’s government telling them to keep quiet if they have no guns to overthrow NRM.
In a video that has since elicited condemnations, the minister has since been told that the barbaric methods of overthrowing government by use of guns went down the terrain long time ago and currently uprisings are causing change of government in many countries.
“If NRM is the government which is in power then go with NRM, at your age do you have guns to overthrow government?,, Why do you now begin demeaning it and opposing it”-said Nabakooba as those listening to her clapped in cheers.
