Ahead of the 2026 General elections, political parties will early next year start preparing for the elections which many politicians especially those in opposition call a ritual to stamp Museveni’s grip to power.

President Museveni has already shown signs that he’s going nowhere and will run for presidency again to push his stay in state house to 45 years. He’s always unopposed in NRM when the party is voting for flag bearers since the position of Party Chairperson and NRM presidential flag bearer are ringfenced for him alone.

Now ahead of the 2026 polls, NRM party just like other parties will hold it’s primary elections to select the flag bearers from the local levels to the national levels. Other positions that will be up for grabs again will the NRM Central Executive Committee positions.

In the last Elections, Captain Mike Mukula was elected Vice Chairperson East, late Jacob Oulanyah for Vice Chairperson Northern, Godfrey Kiwanda Suubi for Buganda (Central Region), Dr Chris Baryomunsi for Western Uganda and former Speaker Kadaga National Vice Chairperson Female.

Speaker Anita Among has now declared her bid to contest against Kadaga for the National Vice Chairperson Female when the CEC elections come next year around August. This will surely be a real battle if Kadaga also decides to stand for the same position. She last time beat Minister Persis Namuganza by a small margin.

It will be a battle of money, power, influence since both Kadaga and Anita Among ladies have wanted to prove their political prominence in the country. Though Kadaga is more politically experienced than Anita Among, the two normally throw jibes at each other once in a while with insiders suggesting that Kadaga might come back in 2026 to reclaim the speakership position.
