Reports have been swirling over the past few days indicating that four time presidential candidate Dr Kiiza Besigye had gone missing for days and no one was aware of his where about.

Dr Kiiza Besigye was kidnapped from a hotel in Westlands in Nairobi City where he had gone to attend an even on invitation of Former Deputy Presidential Candidate Martha Karua in Kenya’s capital last Saturday.

However, Besigye was last at the Hotel and never returned and unknown people kidnapped him. As questions about his whereabouts continued spilling, it was later revealed that the former FDC stalwart was being held at the Makindye Military Barracks.

The government of Kenya has denied taking part in Besigye’s arrest in a foreign country raising questions about the sovereignty of Kenya as a country under President William Ruto.

Few months, a group of 36 members of FDC allied to Dr Kiiza Besigye were also brutally arrested in Kenya reportedly by Ugandan military in a hotel in Kisumu. These were charged in Kampala not Kenya and were recently granted bail.

Several leaders who tried accessing the Makindye Military court where Besigye was arraigned today were blocked and only a few including his lawyer Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago were allowed in.

Besigye was finally brought in court under heavy military deployment but he however objected the idea of trying him a military court since he’s not a member of the UPDF and he asked if he has any crime to be tried in a civilian court.

“I object to the court of the military because I am not a member of the UPDF, and i ask that I be tried in a civilian court if I have committed any offence”-said Besigye

He’s being charged together with his colleague Hajji Obed Lutale and prosecution accuses the two of being in possession of two pistols and eight rounds of ammunition. Prosecution further says the two committed the offences in Nairobi (Kenya, Athens (Greece) and Geneva (Switzerland).

Reports from Makindye Military Court Martial indicate that the four time presidential candidate has been remanded to Luzira prisons until 2nd December 2024 when a ruling about his objection of the military court and his bail application will be heard.
