A by-election arising from the death of Sarah Mateke who was the Kisoro District women representative and also Museveni’s junior minister for Defense and Veteran affairs took place today in the Southern district of Kisoro with six candidates facing off.
Stakes have been high with the NRM district chairperson Dr. Philemon Mateke rallying behind an independent candidate Grace Akifeza Ngabirano and shunning his party’s flag bearer Kabagyeni Rose.
The other candidates include NUP’s Zubedi Sultana Salim, FDC’s Musanase Juliet, UPC’s Ingabire Mable and another independent candidate Cyimpaye Aisha. All political heavy weights from UPC, FDC, NUP and NRM were in the area to drum up support for their candidates including President Museveni and NUP’s Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine.

Polls took a dramatic turn early morning when allegations of vote rigging and ballot stuffing started swirling with police now hunting for a prominent legislator accusing him ballot stuffing at some poling station putting the final results and the integrity of the polls at state.
Vote counting has already started at all polling stations across Kisoro district but police has revealed that they’re actively pursuing Bufumbira north legislator John Kamara over his involvement in ballot stuffing at a polling station Busanani Primary School in Buhozi parish in Busanza Sub-county.
