Amidst the scuffle and heavy deployment at parliament as legislators return today to consider the fate of three government agencies, Speaker Anita Among has suspended 12 MPs for three consecutive sittings.

Earlier, chaos ensued during plenary when Kilak North legislator Anthony Akol threw heavy punches on MP Francis Zaake which tore his courts and sent him to a hospital bed just like in 2017 when he was punched by Gen Katumba Wamala during the Togikwatako scuffle.

Legislators are set to consider three agencies for rationalization; the Uganda Road Fund (URF), Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) and the Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA) which has caught the attention of Ugandans with majority opposed to the move to send UCDA back to the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF).

The suspended legislators include; Anthony Akol (Kilak North) who rained heavy punches on Zaake as he threw him out of the seat, Wakayima Musoke (Nansana Municipality), Alyosius Mukasa (Rubaga South), Charles Tebandeke (Bbaale County), and Francis Zaake (Mityana Municiplaity) who is currently hospitalized.

The others suspended are Isiah Sasaga (Budadiri East), Asinasi Nyakato (Hoima City), Derrick Nyeko (Makindye East), Frank Kabuye (Kasanda South), Evans Kanyike (Bukoto East), Shamim Malende (Kampala City) and Suzan Mugabi the Women District Representative of Buvuma District.

“I am proceeding to name the MPs and suspend these members for three consecutive sittings from this House. The Members are suspended with immediate effect from the House. I am also evoking Rule 88(2) to order the above MPs to withdraw immediately from the House and according order the Seargent at Arms that they vacate the Chambers and therefore suspend the House for 15minutes,” said Anita Among

This is the second time MP Anthony Akol is fighting in parliament, in July 2020 he punched former MP Odonga Otto and he said he had only simply slapped him in self defense when the two had an argument.
