As the debate on Coffee continues to take different turns and twists, several people voiced their concerns regarding the rationalization of the Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA) back to the mother ministry of Agriculture, Animal husbandry and Fisheries (MAIIF).
Government argues that by rationalizing several Authorities back to their mother ministries, it would save some ka money to run it’s other errands instead of the huge salaries it gives to the 100s of employees in the MDAs.
Now during the Coffee debate in parliament, Democratic Party’s President General who is also the Minister for Constitutional affairs Norbert Mao revealed that the Colonialists lied to the people of Northern Uganda that Coffee does not grow in their area.

I have listened and will like to make some comment, First. The political economy of the so called allocation of specialized crops in various parts of Uganda. It has got a colonial history, first of all the British told us a big lie that coffee does not grow in Northern Uganda. Because they were white and better educated than us, we believed them”-says Mao
Mao further says three wise men defiantly planted coffee in their compounds to challenge that lie. He also reveals that the British manufactured the said lie to subject the people from the upper Nile which is northern Uganda to the seasonal crops which required a lot of hard labor and not rewarding.
