In a surprising turn of events, the family of fallen controversial Ugandan journalist Tamale Mirundi has issued a public apology to the Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, and the Buganda Kingdom.
Tamale Mirundi died last month on 13th August at Kisubi hospital after weeks of battling several illness. During the funeral and after his family expressed deep regrets over his abuses and jibes that the late used to throw at the Kingdom and it’s leadership.
The family expressed deep regret for the hurtful statements and actions attributed to the late Mirundi he used to make during media appearances on Radio, Television and Online channels, particularly those that have caused offense to the Kingdom and its subjects.
Tamale Mirundi, was known for his outspoken views and often controversial commentary, had been a polarizing figure in Ugandan politics. His criticism of the Buganda Kingdom, particularly regarding land issues and the role of the Kabaka, had sparked numerous debates and controversies.
The apology was carried by his family members including Children, Wives and other relatives who visited the Kingdom acknowledged the pain and hurt caused by Mirundi’s words.
The family while meeting Katikiro Charles Peter Mayiga emphasized that they are committed to healing the wounds and rebuilding bridges with the Buganda Kingdom.
Owing to their visit at the Mengo headquarters, many Buganda Kingdom supporters have expressed mixed reactions. Some have welcomed the apology as a positive step towards reconciliation.
While revealing the Late Tamale Family’s visit to Mengo, Katikiro Charles Peter Mayiga revealed that on the Kingdom’s behalf and his own behalf he accepted the apology emphasizing that apologizing is an action of humanity.
