National Unity Platform leader Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine the President of the National Unity Platform has praised Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital for its quality services despite human resources and infrastructural challenges.
During a visit to check on Jolly Mugisha, the party’s Deputy President for Western Uganda, receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Bobi Wine was impressed by the hospital’s professionalism and dedication to patient care.
Accompanied by his entourage, Bobi Wine commended the hospital team for stabilizing Mugisha’s condition. Halson Kagure, the Mbarara Referral Hospital’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed the visit, stating that Bobi Wine, like any other caretaker, has the right to check on his patient. Kagure noted that the visit didn’t cause any disruption, highlighting Bobi Wine’s civility.

When asked if clearance was sought from the hospital administration, Kagure downplayed the question, saying Bobi Wine’s relatives and friends have experienced the hospital’s quality services. Bobi Wine later shared a group picture on social media, appreciating the hospital team’s efforts to save Mugisha’s life.
Sources close to him say he was impressed by the doctors’ professionalism despite challenges faced by the hospital. As he left, Bobi Wine wondered why the government hasn’t revamped the hospital to a national referral hospital, equipping it with sufficient human resources and infrastructure.
In a phone interview, Kagure said the hospital offers comprehensive, high-quality services and a patient-centered approach. Bobi Wine’s followers on social media applauded him for crediting the hospital, wishing Mugisha a quick recovery.
Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, a tertiary health facility, offers over forty specialized services, attracting referrals from regional hospitals and neighboring countries. However, local politicians argue that the hospital’s meager budget, despite serving a large population, raises concerns about government plans to elevate it to a national referral facility.
