A consortium of NGOs comprising CEFORD, Nebbi NGO Forum and Life Concern, with funding from CO-OPERAID, a Switzerland-based NGO, has embarked on vigorous capacity building of primary and nursery school teachers in Zombo district.<\/p>\n

This as the consortium commenced phase II of \u201cAlochi Ku Somo\u201d project spanning another three years.\u00a0The new phase of the project commenced January 1, 2025, with projected completion time, December 2027, at a tune of UGX 4.8billion.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Phase I of the project was implemented with a budget of Shs 4.2 billion.<\/p>\n

Aluchi ku somo, was initiated in 2022, to improve academic performance and retention of learners, underscoring capacity building to teachers, improving classrooms, staff quarters, and skilling youth among others.<\/p>\n

Under this phase II, the project is improving classrooms in seven schools including; Pagisi primary school in Paidha sub-county, Mvugu lower primary and Mvule primary school in Paidha town council, Pei primary school in Warr sub-county, Warr Public primary school Warr town council, Nyandima and Angalarach primary school in Atyak sub-county.<\/p>\n

In a related development, the project has selected one best school director and ten best teachers with the aim of building their capacity and subsequently extending their skills acquired to other schools in their sub-county.<\/p>\n

This saw school director Paula Wathum of Cana primary school awarded ugx 2million while these ten teachers given each ugx 1.5 million and ugx 1million goes to benefiting respective school projects.<\/p>\n

The teachers\u2019 awardees included; Gatrud Giramia, Nguthe primary school, Jerry Kisarach, Uwinyupyelo primary school, Dickson Ocan, Atyak\u00a0Primary School, Felix Adrapi, Ukemu primary school, Gloria Yikpamungu Pagisi primary school, Binega Patrick, Got-Cam primary school, Grace Cwinyaai Atimango, Pei primary school, Keffa Ukurrwoth, Kaya primary school, Lilian Unziru, Nyandima primary school and Francis Acamfua , Warr Public primary school.<\/p>\n

Speaking during the award winning ceremony at the office of Nebbi NGO Forum in Paidha town council on 14th<\/sup>\u00a0April 2025, Alfred Ogenmungu project officer of Alochi Ku somu project, Nebbi NGO Forum said this support is to ensure they monitor the effort of the teachers on the learners.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis money is meant to improve yourself and learners.\u201d Alfred assured the teachers<\/p>\n

Ochaki Samuel, the Zombo district Community Development Officer, who doubled as chairperson jury for selection of beneficiaries schools and teachers have observed that a number of schools are in dire condition.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe only have little resources with only about something of ugx 200 million what can we do.\u201d Ochaki<\/p>\n

Zombo district Schools Inspector Silvio Jalar, ensures the learners should be able to apply the knowledge they are taught, \u201cbe the team that encourages the teachers to clock in and out, and manage these types of tasks.\u201d<\/p>\n

Make our learners to pass the assessment, be intelligent, skillful and have a big heart for the learners. Jalar implored the awardee teachers.<\/p>\n

John Paskal Wapokurwa, representative of Alur Kingdom, has commended the contribution consortium, saying poor performance of learners still persist in the kingdom due to many factors.<\/p>\n

He recounted poor performance of pupils can be stressed back in 2029, where by the greater Nebbi, was among the top nine poor performing districts in primary leaving Examinations results (PLE).<\/p>\n

Paula Wathum the awardee of the best school director hailed the award adding it was on merits, and hence she will use the money to pay her tuition at Kyambogo University.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have encouraged team work spirit with teachers, pupils, PTA, SMC and community.\u201d Wathum<\/p>\n

Implementing the project in collaboration with the district input; \u201cAloci Ku Somu\u201d project resulted in the construction and renovation of 21 classroom blocks and staff houses, developed in collaboration with the local community and district authorities.<\/p>\n

The Community members offer support through providing local materials such as bricks, sand, stones, and water, while Co-operaid provided the necessary financial support for the infrastructure development.<\/p>\n
