By Oweyegha-Afunaduula Besides the selfish political preservation wishes, what has baffled me most is the alleged sell-off of Busoga kingdom property (especially land) by the leaders in Bugembe to enrich themselves at the expense of our people. If this is true, it is not only absurd but criminal. Neither Kyabazingas Sir William Wilberforce Kadhumbula Gabula Nadiope II nor his nemesis Henry Waako Mulooki ever indulged in such madness! If anything they created the wealth unscrupulous people casting themselves as leaders have grabbed or continue to grab. People like Ali Balunywa, Charles Afunaduula Ovuma, Mwangu, Lubandi, Lwigale, Mpabulungi, Martin Namansa, Williams,…
By Mahir Balunywa Center For Critical Thinking and Alternative Analysis. Last night I listened to an audio on the Impala platform. The audio sounded like the Rt.Hon.Alitwala Kadaga was cautioning the Basoga against a click of Some Basoga elites who have now taken it as a fully paid job to not only fight her out of Busoga Kingdom affairs, but also put an end to the kingdom. Going by the audio (if it’s really her words) one would rightly posit that the Busoga kingdom is in a crisis state. The crisis seems to be internal with external funding. The internal…
By Oweyegha-Afunaduula In this article I introduce the concept of political trajectory. We can advance a country’s political trajectory as the evolution and development of the political system and governance in a country, reflecting changes in structure, ideology, and power dynamics over time. For any country, its political trajectory has been shaped by significant historical events, constitutional amendments, and shifts in public opinion, leading to the emergence of a distinct political culture characterized by either democratic principles or their violation. In Uganda, the political trajectory has for the last 40 years been under control and manipulation by President Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s…

By Joshua Kato Tax bills are legislative proposals that outline changes in a country’s tax structure. In Uganda, these bills are drafted by the Ministry of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development (MoFPED) and presented to Parliament for approval. The process involves consultation with various stakeholders, including the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), business communities, and tax professionals. The public plays a crucial role through debates, feedback, and advocacy before the bills are enacted into law. Tax bills always aims at increasing domestic revenue collection, closing loopholes in tax administration, and aligning tax policies with the country’s economic development agenda. The process…
Recently, the Parliament approved the government’s proposal to borrow over US$190 million from Stanbic Bank Uganda for the Umeme Limited buyout despite concerns raised by legislators on the Committee of National Economy. The loan was approved without the Auditor General’s report that would establish the exact UMEME buyout amount. Of course, this may create inconsistencies of the estimated buyout amount. For instance, while the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) estimated a cost of US$127.6 million, the government sought US$190.9 million. But that’s not the point, lets focus on the end of the Umeme Ltd electricity distribution concession, the refusal by the government to renew…
A lot has been said about Hon Muhammed Ssegirinya even in parliament where legislators paid tribute to him. Majority described him a down to earth leader who agitated for better leadership and the well being of the people he represented. Raising from being a radio caller to a political maven who inspired many people humble backgrounds, Ssegirinya was such a soul that majority believe who life would have been saved had it not been president Museveni’s orders to judiciary not to grant bail to individuals accused of murder. MPs Allan Ssewanyana and Muhammad Ssegirinya were summoned to Masaka CPS in…
Parliament has this morning paid tribute to the fallen Member of parliament of Kawempe North Hon Muhammad Ssegirinya who died yesterday at Lubaga Hospital in Kampala after a long battle with sickness. In a parliamentary session attended mostly by opposition legislators, Ssegirinya was described as a leader who was for the down trodden and did a lot for his constituents for the little time he was in parliament even more than those who’ve been in the house for years. Its a moment of grief in Kawempe North and among the friends and family of Honorable Ssegirinya Muhammad who has been confirmed dead at Lubaga hospital in Kampala this afternoon. The deceased had battled sickness for quite long but the situation worsened in the prison where he was held on remand for over 500 days as government accused him and his counterpart of Makindye West Allan Ssewanyana of being behind the famous Masaka Bijambiya which claimed lives of over 30 people. Ssegirinya’s long battle with sickness sent him to the Aga Khan Hospital for months in Nairobi where he got…
