Dr. Kiiza Besigye, he was arrested, kidnapped and abducted from Nairobi last year in November on 16th. On the third day he was arraigned before the General Court Martial and charged with possession of fire arms and plotting to destabilize national peace. He’s charged alongside his long time friend Hajji Obeid Lutale whom he had traveled with to Nairobi.
However, in his 13th January appearance before the General Court Martial, his legal team was surprised when a UPDF captain Denis Oola who according to sources had been in prison for almost a year was added to Besigye’s file as a co-accused.

Following the supreme court ruling that halted the trial of civilians in military courts and the orders to transfer all pending and active cases in the General Court Martial to Civilian courts, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has successfully transferred Besigye’s case.
Dr. Besigye and his co-accused Lutale have been arraigned before the Nakawa Chief Magistrate’s court following a produce warrant sent to the prison authorities yesterday evening.
According to the charge sheet seen by this publication, Besigye, Lutale and a UPDF captain Denis Oola have been slapped with treason charges. Prosecution alleges that while attending meetings in Switzerland, Uganda, Kenya and Greece, Besigye, Lutale and Captain Denis Oola plotted to end Museveni’s government
“COL (RTD) DR. KIZZA BESIGYE, HAJJI OBEID LUTALE, RO/12743 CAPTAIN DENIS OOLA and others still at large between the year 2023 and November 2024 at various places/ countries including Geneva in Switzerland, Athens in Greece, Nairobi in Kenya, Kampala in Uganda, contrived a plot, act or matter by force of arms to overturn the Government of Uganda as by law established and expressed or declared such plot, act or matter by utterances and overt acts”- reads part of the charge sheet.
In the treason charges now before the Chief Magistrate’s court in Nakawa, prosecution alleges that Besigye traveled to various countries including Switzerland, Greece, Kenya for purposes of attending meetings aimed at plotting to overturn the government of Uganda as by law established.
Prosecution also alleges that Besigye and his co-accused attended meetings with various individuals both physically and virtually in various places including Geneva in Switzerland, Athens in Greece, Nairobi in Kenya, and Kampala in Uganda in furtherance of the plot to overturn the government of Uganda as by law established.
State also alleges that Besigye and his co-accused made utterances to various individuals during meetings and privately expressing desire and intent to overturn the government of Uganda as by law established.
Further, prosecution alleges Besigye and his co-accused provided logistical support and organized for several Ugandan citizens to travel to Kisumu, Kenya for the purpose of receiving training in various military and intelligence gathering techniques.
Besigye and his co-accused are accused of soliciting for military, financial and other logistical support to overturn the government of Uganda as by law established.
